What is Covid-19?

COVID-19 is a virus that affects your respiratory (breathing) system. It spreads easily through close contact with people who already have the illness and through coughs and sneezes. Most people have mild symptoms and recover quickly; however some people can become incredibly ill. Occasionally, symptoms can persist and develop into a condition called “Long COVID”. Those with underlying health conditions are at higher risk of serious complications. Some of the symptoms can include:

  • High temperature or shivering
  • Continuous cough
  • Sore throat
  • Loss or change in sense of smell or taste
  • Gastrointestinal problems (diarrhoea, vomiting)
